Back & White & Red & Gingham!!

Hello crafty friends.
Today I've sort of reverted to form, even down to my choice of colour!!

Mrs Predictable for sure.

And this is what I did.

I used  Polkadoodles Ula Be Beautiful which is available as a stamp from retailers, or if you can't wait, you can get her as a digi here

Now, those beautimous papers are actually Christmas papers from  the Country Christmas 6x6 paper pack. I got them ages ago and I've been dying to use them. They are fabulous quality and sooooo nice to look at and there are some in that pack that are not just for Christmas as well.

Swoooon.

I wanted to curl them a bit but didn't want the white back to show so I just  used a bit of the chopped off waste and stuck it on the back so you could see it once it curled - it looks like it's double sided paper now.

I found it best to curl, stick the waste paper on and then re-curl if that makes sense!!

You can maybe see the curly bits better in this pic.

I coloured her with the following Copics-

Skin - E0000, E00, E11, E13, R02, R05
Eyes - N3
Hair - E31, E35, E39, E50, R05
Hat - W00, W1, W3, W5, W7
Blooms - R02, R05, R14, R17, R27, R59, W00, W1
Leaves - YG00, YG01, YG03, YG95, YG97

and I have to say that she is an absolute doddle to colour.

Can you see the white scratchy looking lines in her eyes?  I added some crystal glaze over her eyes once I'd coloured them and it's just the reflection. I also added some clear glitter on the blooms (I am such a glitter freak!!).

And that circle die is from the Stitched & Pierced Nested Circles die set.

Yes, oh yes you ARE :)
What a gorgeous sentiment.

I made a border using the little heart in the stamp set and added glitter on that as well.
I like using the lovely little additions that come in these sets - they add a bit of interest. These would make a lovely frame I think.

So that's my card for today and hope you like it.
See you soon and huggiest of crafty hugs,
Dawny P xx

Mixed Media Dawny? Surely Not!!!

Hello crafty friends, and this is something completely different for me today.

I've always envied all the beautiful mixed media projects that I've seen on social media and thought that I'd have a go with the wonderful array of products that we have available from Nikky at Polkadoodles.

This is a pic heavy post but I do hope that if, like me, you've wanted to dip your toes into the world of mixed media but found it all a bit daunting, it will help.

So firstly, this is the finished project ...

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed putting this together.
It's a world I could get completely lost in.

So this is a list of products I used -

Dies -

Posydoodles Basics - Tags

Delicate Daisy Border

Butterfly Trio

Stamps –

Textures Galore stamp set

Paper

6x6" Paper Pack - Posy Doodles

Plus ....
MDF heart
White Gesso
Gel medium or strong glue
White voile
White napkin or tissue paper
Clear glitter
Tonic shimmer powders in Falling Leaves, Solar Flare & Cherry Bomb
Nuvo Drops or liquid pearls (or even gem stones - whatever you have)
Watercolour paper or card
White ribbon
Ink pad

OK so let's start this bad boy!!

Firstly I made up my paper by spritzing some watercolour card and adding the shimmer powers to create my design. It really doesn't matter how you do this - no wrongs or rights here, just  have a play and get some colour onto your card.

You could also use watercolour pens, Distress Ink pads, whatever you have to hand really. But it's best if it's a water based product so you can spritz / dilute it down  and move it around a bit.

Now cover your heart with a sheet of the Posydoodles paper.
I used gel medium to stick it down with because it was on my desk, but you could  use anything.

If your heart is a little bigger than 6" in length, just chop a bit off and add it to the bottom.
It doesn't matter for this is you have a join  and don't forget to poke the hole through the paper at the top so you can add the ribbon later. I (cough cough) forgot to do this on my first outing!!

Now separate the napkin so that it is single ply and scrunch it up.
Add your gel medium or glue to the heart and layer the napkin onto it, scooting it up so that it forms ridges and wrinkles. Add as much or as little napkin as you want, let it dry and then file off the overhang-ey bits.

Now add a layer of white gesso.
Add this by dry brushing, so put the gesso onto your brush and wipe most of it off onto a spare bit of napkin or whatever you have laying about. A wide flat brush is fab for this bit.  You can add this onto the paper as well if you want, but I found that less is more here because we are going to add another layer of gesso later on, and you still want to see the gorgeous paper.

Let it dry or give it a blast with the heat gun if you are impatient like me!!

Now for a bit of colour.
Whatever you used to colour your paper with in the first step is what you will use here. You just want to add it here and there and then give it a spray of water so that it moves about. I found that by doing this is little bits rather than adding all the colour at once, you get a nicer effect with no muddy patches of colour works. You can just dry it in between layers of colour.

Now choose the stamp you want from the texture pack.
Any one of them would work here which is why it's such a useful addition to your stash. Ink it up and add it randomly over the project.  I didn't bother putting it into a stamp block -  I just held in in my hand, dabbed it onto the ink pad and pressed it down.

Give it a blast with the heat gun or let it dry, then dry brush all over with a bit more gesso .
Put it to one side while you get the dies out.

Grab the card you coloured in step 1 and die cut the following -
For each flower, you want 4 layers of the largest die in the set. If you want a smaller flower, or if your heart is smaller, just use the next size down. Cut a Delicate Daisy border and butterfly from the  coloured card and then the rounded tag from the tag set from white card.

I also cut some leaves out which I forget to add to the pic here!!
When you've cut them out, colour them and add a dash of glitter.

I saw a tutorial for making these flowers from my lovely friend Debbie Dolphin and it really inspired me. I took the four die cuts and ran an embossing tool over them to break up the card fibres. Then I cut a slit in 3 of them.

I rolled one of the cut pieces around a skewer and glued it together.

Then I wrapped the other 2 cut pieces around that and glues them on. And finally I stuck that down onto the uncut piece.

A little bit of gesso and clear glitter and we are done.
You need to make 2 more.

I stuck a bit of voile on the left hand side of the heart (which you can't see here!!) then the die cut border and butterfly on the right hand side. Lastly, I added the flowers and leaves.

The sentiment was cut from the paper pack and stuck down onto the tag. I ran a bone folder under it to give it some curl and then stuck it onto the heart. You can see the voile here and also the Nuvo drops which I added to the centre of the border die cut.

And that, my loves, is that finished.
I hope this has inspired you to have a go. The beauty of the Polkadoodles range is that there are so many things you can mix and match with so if you don't have everything here, just have a go with what you do have. It's bound to look fabulous.

Happy crafty hugs, Dawny P xx

A Bit of Stenciling and Watercolour :)

Hello lovely crafty friends and today I've kind of gone off piste a bit.
I've had my eye on the floral image from Polkadoodles Daisy Friends for a while now and also the Moroccan Screen stencil, so I decided to combine them both, and  ....
... this is what I did.

This image ticks so many boxes for me and I know I've said this before but my favourite stamps and products etc are those that can cover a multitude of occasions. This is one - even sympathy (I know we don't like doing them but sometimes you just need them), this one works for everything.

I wanted this to look pretty so I loaded it with clear glitter - you can just about see it in the pic here. I matted it onto some glitter card to give it a bit of balance.

So what did I do?

I started off by die cutting a circle from the Stitched & Pierced Nested Circles - Craft Cutting die set and stamped the image onto it.

I know I'm a Copics girl usually but I do love to watercolour sometimes so I used some  Tonic Studios aquaflow pens and literally just stroked a bit of colour on. Then I took a damp brush and just sort of swept the colour out.

It's a very easy technique, even for non colourists, and you get a nice soft effect.

For the background, I used some Tonic Studios diamond hybrid inks in  these beautiful colours, taped my stencil down and using a sponge blender, just randomly dabbed on the ink.

Simples!!

I went from light to dark with the inks and it really doesn't matter if the colours overlap -  the mix of inks produces some really pretty shades.

Once done, I removed the stencil and just trimmed it down to 12cm square.
The glitter card mat is cut to 13cm square.

Last but by no means least, I stamped and cut the sentiments from the stamp set - very contemporary these and I love them.

These are links to the products I used; hope this helps -

Pretty Princess and A Bit of Colouring Know How x

Hello lovely crafty friends.
I've got a card to share which I made using the Polkadoodles sweetness that is

She is available  as a digi from the shop and from stockists in stamp form.

... and here it is.
I've used the beautiful  Belle Papillon papers and a Polkadoodles Glorious Border  die which works really well with that image I think.

So for my post today, I've kind of concentrated on a bit of colouring -  I do hope it'll help.

I'll list the Copics I've used first and they are -
Skin - E000, E00, E11, E13, R02, R05
Hair - E31, E33, E35, E50
Crown - Y00, Y21, Y28, Y31
Clothes -  BG11, BG32, BG49, G0000, G000, G00, RV00, RV10, W00, W01, W03, W05
Grounding - W00, W01, W03

When I put a card together, I tend to do it in the same way every time and the first thing I do is to choose my papers. Then I'll stamp the image and do the colouring then assemble lastly - it's just the way it works best for me really. If you find a way that works for you, then stick with it :)

I always start with the skin and I firstly add a primer coat of the lightest colour - in this case it was E000. Then I start adding a bit of shading - E00 and a touch of E11

I only do a small amount of work on the skin at this point. Then I move onto the hair, and again I'll lay down the primer - E50 - before adding my shading. I complete the hair and then go back to finish the skin.

Now you can really see the image starting to come to life.
I've found that by going back to finish the skin after you've done the hair, you can really see where to add more depth. And I will go over and over the area several times to build it all up. Once I'm happy with it, I'll add a bit of colour to her cheeks and lips and do her eyes.

I'll then colour the clothing and the reason I choose my papers first is so that I can match up the pen colours where possible. I left the crown un-coloured in this case because I wanted to sort of decoupage it on afterwards.

So I stamped out the head once more, coloured it, cut it out (I'm rubbish at cutting out!!) and then stuck it down over the image but gluing down the bottom bit of the crown only, so that it's flat against her head. Then I added foam pads to the top bit.

These are the papers, cut to size and I've added the measurements to each paper.
The base card is 172 x 172mm which I covered with the grey card cut to the same size.

I die cut the border out and then stamped the little  border onto some paper and stuck it down onto the bottom. The scalloped edge is just the edge of a scalloped card which I had floating about!!

And there she is all done.
I hope that you've found this useful and than you for stopping by today.

Happy crafting and see you soon,
Dawny P xx

You've Been Framed!!

Hello crafty friends - Dawny P here.
I'm sharing a card today which I made using a few Polkadoodles lovelies and I've mixed and matched a couple of stamp sets.

This is the card and the main image is Winne - Sweetest Thing.
I've deviated from my usual blondie hair for this one!!

I coloured Winnie with Copics and these are the colours I used -

Skin - E000, E00, E11, E13, R00, R05
Hair - E07, E19, E50, E59, E97, E99
Clothes - YG0000, YG00, YG01, YG03, YG95, YG97
Grounding - W00, W1, W3, W5

The frame was made using 2 Posydoodles Rectangle dies and then I stamped over it with a stamp from the Textures Galore set (it beats hand doodling the frame I can promise you!!)

The sentiments are from the Daisy Friends stamp set and I just added a bit of Copics colour to them.

These pretty papers are from Bright and Beautiful and I've put the sizes I used on the pic.
The striped paper is straight out of the pad ie 6" square.
I love that these are not glued together :)

The butterfly is also from Daisy Friends.

Lots of dimension ....and a bit of gingham ribbon as well!!

Here's a list of the products I've used -.
