Some Challenges & My 100th Post xxxx

I just realised as I went to do this that it is actually my 100th post!!! I can't quite believe I've done that many to be honest!! And to say thank you for bearing with me and visiting my blog and putting up with my inane drivle, I'll get some blog candy organised - stay tuned for that and I'll sort as soon as soon xx

This first one is for 3 challenges!! A Spoonful of Sugar, which is to use 3 ribbons (well as you know, I do love a ribbon or 3 lol xx), Sketch Saturday which is based on a sketch (sorry for stating the obvious lol xxx) and Dutch Dare, which is to make a card for a girl. Papers are PP, the blooms are Paper Cellar, the ribbons are the fabulous Poppicrafts and the image is a RAK from one of my best blog buds Dawnie - thanks me darl xxxxxI thought I'd do this one a bit different so I made it out of a square tube if that makes sense - hope you can see what I mean from the pic. This is my card for CCT which this week is 'In the Water'. Again the papers are PP, the buttons are Poppicrafts. The blue bloom is also Poppicrafts and that gorgeous little crochet flower is a RAK from the ever so talented Bev - thanks to you me darl xxx The border is Craftwork Cards and the ric rac and ribbons were from Creative Pastimes.

I'm off now to start preparing Sunday lunch. My niece is coming and she is bringing baby Haydn round so I'm guessing that lots of buddles (baby cuddles) are in order. Have a fabulous Sunday and tfs xxxxxx

We have just been out for dinner for Richard's birthday (yesterday) and we are both stuffed!!! My pud of warm chocolate brownie with hot choc sauce and real vanilla ice cream was gorge but it was a bridge too far!!! So the diet book is coming out on Monday (not tomorrow cos we have a house full for Sunday lunch and they are expecting roast beef and all that goes with it). And then it's back to fat club for me - eat dust!!!!!

Anyway, before I waddle back into my craft room and do a couple of challenges, I thought I would share these with you. Here are a couple more Raspberry Ribbons Loving Lilac designs from next month's kit.

Firstly, a cheeky little number .....

The paper and image are both PP, ribbons are RR, naturellement (check out that beautiful wide grosgrain, it is just the prettiest shade of lilac), and what is that gorgeous lacy border I wonder??? Could it be my MSBP????? Now I happen to know that Martha Doo Dah has sold right out of these punches and I think it is cos there has been a bit of a Brit invasion :)

But I have to tell you here and now that an interloper has arrived at chez Dawny and my beloved punch now has a rival.... all will be revealed soon lol xxx
But speaking of Martha, here's another - one of the very talented Kerry's Spiral Whispers stamps. The paper is Pocket Full Of Posies. And what a neat link from one card to the other - I should be on the telly!!!

And finally, a bit of sheer Grandma indulgence!! Kyla went to a party last Saturday and it was fancy dress. Her first choice of outfit was Bob The Builder !! Unfortunately we weren't able to do that one lol xx In the end she went as a ladybird!!! Awwww, these pics were too nice to keep to myself and I glow with pride, as only a grandma can, every time I look at them!!!

Paper Take Weekly Challenge - A Stitch In Time xx

FirstlyI would like to thank Steph for giving me the opportunity to join the fabulously awesome PWT design Team xxxx. I am sooo chuffed peeps, I cannot tell you xxxx And thank you to the other DT girls for making me feel welcome xxxx I do appreciate it, being the new girl and all that!!!

So onto this weeks challenge, which is a stitch in time, which is simply to use stitching on your project! It can be real or faux!

I've gone for faux seeing as my sewing machine is somewhere in the depths of my spare room and I would need a search party worthy of the SAS to find it!!! Some of these are hand drawn and some are rub ons.

I'm sure if you look carefully you will be able to tell which is which lol xxxx

Just for a change, I have used my MSBP (yes, it is a bit sad when I am down to abbreviations, safe in the knowledge that you will know what I am talking about!!). The papers are all K & Co, as is the flower which is from a press out book (it's just fabulous!!). The little brad is Poppicrafts with a bit of bling stuck on the top, the sentiment is from the PP Tiny Tags set and the ribbon is from my stash. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT 's work cos it is uber fabbytastic.

This one is for this weeks Papertake Weekly challenge which is based on a sketch by the very talented Katharina. I used an Alota stamp - I so love these stamps - and coloured it in using Prismas. NOT happy with the colouring in, but there ya go!! The pink papers are Andrea's Kaboodle Doodles Pink & Blue paper pack, the grey stripey paper is PP, the ribbon is Poppicrafts and the cute lil button brads are Making Memories.

Hi girls. I was notified late last night about a really nasty computer virus that is about to hit us. What makes it so nasty is that it is really destructive, and at the mo, McAfee don't have a fix. But as it makes a reference to postcard, or card, or Hallmark, us cardies might think it was a genuine thing cos of what we do. This is the e-mail I got ...

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open anymessage with an attachment nt entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,'regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.
So please take care peeps. I know sometimes these warnings go around and they turn out to be 'urban myths' and as I type this, I 've asked our IT guy to have a look and see what he can find out. BUT better safe than sorry until we know for sure.

Carol's New Challenge

I came across a new challenge which I saw on Kath's blog. It's set by her Funky Hand DT mate Carol and it is a sketch challenge. Well we do love our sketches don't we girls lol xx. So pop over and have a look. This is my take on it. I used Prima Hybrid papers for a change and the image was part of the Nancy Kubo Totally Sweet Doodles set ( this set is rather gorge it has to be said and loads of stuff in it)!!! And guess what I used - just for a change!! Don't worry, the novelty will no doubt wear off soon lol xxx I cannot remember where I got the ribbons from, sorry. And there is a bit of the old Glamour Dust liberally sprinkled as well!!

Seek and Ye Shall Find .....

Kyla is going to a party this afternoon, little socialite that she is. So I told Emma that I would do her a card to take - like any good cardmaking Grandma would, natch!!

And while I was doing the rooty tooty thing looking for something suitable, I found this stamp. Well blow me down, it's only a Penny Black stamp, and I clean forgot I had it. So I thought I would do a card for Kyla to take to the party and do the Penny Black Saturday Challenge at the same time.

Papers are PP, ribbons are Poppicrafts and Dawn's stash, and there is a little bit of Glamour Dust sprinkled over with lots of love.

And talking of Kyla, here are a couple of pics I took last week. As you know, I always struggle with my camera so I was thrilled with the flowing hair one as I think it is quite arty (for me at any rate). She was actually flouncing off cos I had just told her to stop picking flowers. I mean, Johnny Cash was put in jail for that - ooh dear. But I must have caught her just right. I did a bit of jiggery pokery with the old Photoshop and I rather like how it turned out. The other one is just me and her - awww I do love that kid.

Finally!!!

I managed to do 2 challenges and boy was it hard, having not made a card for years. Well not years, but months. Well not months but it has been a while lol xx And the longer I go without making a card, the harder it seems to be to be to get going again. Is this just me or do we all go through this???

So anyway, the first one is for 2 Sketches 4 You and is based on Laura's fabulous sketch. This is such a lovely sketch and I will use it again definately. This is actually for someone - can't say who until they have received it (intrigue intrigue). The papers are the new PP download, One in A Melon. These are just some of the prettiest papers I've seen in a while. The ribbon is Poppicrafts and I used my new Martha Stewart border punch (again hee hee) which I LOVE.
This is my card for PTW which this week is 'button it'. The ribbons and buttons are all Poppicrafts, the papers are PP natch, and is that my new Martha Stewart punch I see. Did I mention that I love it!!! The little heart is cut out from one of the One In A Melon papers and I went over it with Glossy Accents so that it looks like one of them there dome sticker thingies - sorry, I can't remember for the life of me what they are called!!! It looks a bit weird here but in real life it looks quite cool. And a fraction of the cost of the stickers whose name I cant remember!!!

Can You Help?

Hi peeps, sorry for the lack of cardage on here (there WILL be some later) but I have been soo busy it is just not funny!! Anyway I wonder of you can help. Most of us have family members or know someone who has served in the Armed Forces and these men and woman serve our country so well and sometimes pay a price which I personally think is far too high.

I am ex forces - I served 9 years.My bro and sis are still serving (between them its nigh on 39 years).My husband served 22 years in the British Army (he served in 1st Gulf war)My cousin is still serving (he served in 1st gulf war too)Mum and Dad are ex forces which totals up to almost 100 years.Plus my grandfathers are ex-forces too.I have a little plea to anyone who cares to help sign a petition to help keep the Royal Military Hospital at Haslar open. There is only ONE MAJOR forces hospital open in the whole of the UK. That means if any of our servicemen in Afghanistan or Iraq return to the UK with an injury, they have to go into a NHS Hospital. Somewhere alien to their needs and no camaraderie. And this is the message I got from my mum today. She was once treated in this hospital when she was a WREN.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP xxRMH Haslar is set to close, but is still operational and could be made into a great home for our injured service personnel. Some background: '2 Para' alone have on their current tour sent back over 50 casualties to the UK, and even that many cannot be accommodated at Selly Oak Hospital. So when all of the casualties from other battle groups are added to this figure, how is ONE ward in ONE NHS hospital going to cope? It cannot. And as a result the individual troops are sent home to recover relying on NHS visiting services which themselves are over committed.

We need a dedicated military hospital if servicemen and servicewomen, who have been committed to hostilities and injured, are to get the medical care they rightly deserve. A lot more than 5000 names are needed for this petition to survive, and quite cynically, Downing Street has put a time limit of one month - during the summer holidays - for this to be achieved. Please support it - please copy the link below to confirm your signature on the petition. Please forward this email to as many people as you can. Thanks. The Wrong Funeral aka one of my most embarrassing moments. EVER!!

One of the things I said on my 'tag' was that I had gone to the wrong funeral. Well some of you have e-mailed me out of curiosity asking me how on Gods green earth this could have happened. So I am baring my shame to you all and will share the story. Pull up a chair, get comfy and have a read - you will probably have never heard anything like it before in your lives (and probably won't again).

What happened is this …. And I swear this is all true (well you couldn’t make it up to be honest!!)

My ex’s dad died – we never really got on that well. Anyway on the morning of the funeral, he (the ex) went over to Liverpool really early to make sure his mum was ok (lovely lady btw). Well he said to me that they were leaving the house at 12.30pm, see you later etc etc and off he went.. So me and my youngest set off later, in good time and although we hit traffic on the way, we arrived at the house at 12.20pm. Only to find that the house bore a strange resemblance to the Marie Celeste.

Well we didn’t know what to do cos we didn’t know where the funeral was. So I am going ‘think Dawny think’ and generally bashing myself on the head a lot in the style of Basil Fawlty. But sadly, nothing (there is still not a lot there now lol xx). So I grabbed a random pedestrian and sort of said ‘excuse me please, do you know where the nearest cemetery is?’ Surprisingly he didn’t run away!!!. He told me the name of it and I sort of then vaguely remembered it from the obituary notice I’d read in the paper. He gave me directions and off we went.

Bearing in mind this is Liverpool and I don’t really know the area, we did really well and found it without too much bother. So we drove through the gates and just kept driving round but all we could see were graves. Of course this isn’t rush hour in the city, so there was a bit of a shortage of alive people to ask for further directions. But eventually we find someone and asked him. He told us that the cemetery was split into 2 – this was the graveyard bit and we needed the crematorium. ‘Fab’ I says, ‘where is it please?’. ‘Over the other side of the road’. What he didn’t say was the road was a ruddy great dual carriage way and getting over it was easier said than done. But no matter, off we went and eventually crossed the road, found the car park and got out.

Well by now my face was puce, my hair was sticking to my head so I looked like an advert for shampoo for greasy hair (the ‘before’ bit of course), and rivers of sweat are running off me so despite the copious amounts of Sure Deodorant that I had put on earlier, it did let me down and quite frankly I must have whiffed a fair bit!!. But never mind all that, I thought, we got here and that’s all that counts. So we see a line of people and in the distance, a hearse making its way slowly up the drive. So I grabbed my poor child (11 at the time - it isn’t a good age to be embarrassed by your dippy mother) and ran up to join this queue of people. Mustering as much dignity as I could manage (which quite frankly by now was not very much) we stood there in respectful silence and waited for the hearse.

As we waited, I looked around and suddenly realised that I didn’t know single soul – not one face!!. I began to get the first fluttering of panic and that sick feeling in my stomach. My eyes were like on stalks and a look of sheer horror crossed my puce face. As calmly and as naturally as I could, I turned to this man standing next to me and asked, this is John Smiths funeral isn’t it. (name changed to protect the dead lol xx). ‘No’ he says, ‘it’s random name random names funeral’ (I cannot remember the name now – the stress has wiped it from my memory bank). OMG we are at the wrong funeral I says to poor Emma who is by now mortified and thoroughly ashamed of me. So I says to him ‘but this is Spring Wood Crematorium isn’t it?’. ‘Oh yes love, but here are 2 here, back to back. Try the other side’. So we ran, nay sprinted round to where he had showed us. The good news was that it WAS the right place. But the BAD news was that it had started. And despite the undertaker saying it was fine, I was too embarrassed to gate crash - it would have been very wrong. And by now I was thinking that as the deceased hadn’t liked me very much, perhaps he was trying to tell me something from beyond the grave. Something along the lines of ‘stay away!’. So we waited outside, shamefaced, and embarrassed.

The family were very good about it and it isn’t why the ex and I split up. He maintained to the day we parted that he had told me 12.15pm, and I maintained that he didn’t!!!. For a long time I couldn’t even think about it without breaking into a cold sweat. But I can laugh about it now.

So now you know. It could only happen to me. Hope you enjoyed my shameful moment xxxx

Miserable Day xx

Oooh the weather is awful here and I realised this
morning that I hadn't actually posted owt for 6 flippin days - slap slap. Futher more, I realised
that I haven't actually made a card for over a week!!!! Well I haven't exactly been idle peeps cos I have been here and there.... but more about that in the next post (intrigue intrigue hee hee lol xx)

So to get me back into the swing of things I found a map and made it back to my craft room (without oxygen and using GPS - it wasn't too difficult) and did a couple of challenges.

The first one is PTW fab challenges using one of Katharina's awesome sketches. I used my brand new Martha Stewart doily lace edges punch which came yesterday. Kath I have to confess that I almost held out until this morning but, well you know.... I got to 10pm last night and it was sitting there practically begging me to take it out of the box. So I just had to oblige lol xx The papers are PP and the ribbon is Raspberry Ribbons. The fab glittery goodness round Kerry's Martha Ballerina stamp is cosmic shimmer glitter jewels which is made by Creative Expressions and which I got from Topaz Crafts on Saturday. I think it looks quite good on her dress.

The last one is for this weeks Tilda challenge and is again based on a sketch.
I have had this Tilda stamp for a while now but never used it before. The paper is one of my computer creations and if anyone wants a copy, just e-mail me and I'll send you the file. The ric-rac is Raspberry Ribbons and the teeny tiny little red buttons are from my stash.

So 6 random facts about me ....
1. I used to be in a band years ago. We weren't that good but boy did we have a laugh xx
2. I can't drink cold drinks out of a cup, it has to be a glass (truly weird!!)
3. I have 2 phobias, people puking and frogs (but not puking frogs!!)
4. I have had Crohn's Disease since I was 21 - doesn't interfe with my life cos I dont let it
5. It was love at first sight for me when I met Richard - I didnt even know his name but I knew I would marry him one day
6. I went to the wrong funeral once. It could only happen to me. I can laugh about it now but it was sooo embarrasing at the time.
